It's 2007, and I don't want you to just "Have a Happy New Year". That's a
little too passive!
"Happy New Years"....like profitable websites, aren't something just "to be
had". They're something you actively make!
Here are the five steps every successful small business will take to develop
and deploy a winning internet marketing plan in 2007.
1) Decide on a niche. Decide who your niche market is. And be very specific -- "anybody with a pulse and a wallet" is not an answer! Internet marketing is all about serving a niche: the more specifically you can define who you will and will not serve, the better your focus...and results...will be.
2) Commit to at least three marketing strategies. Commit to at least three internet marketing strategies. And in 2006, make sure at least one of your strategies includes multimedia! Some successful strategies that you can deploy online are:
- Presenting - Speaking - Workshops - Events
- Press Releases - Ezines - Newsletters
- Postcards - Mailers
- Blogging - Podcasting - Videocasting
3) Set numeric goals for each strategy. How many presentations will give each quarter? How many podcasts will you produce each month? How many blog posts will you write every week? Numeric targets are important: they'll let you make better decisions as you deploy your plan.
4) Work the plan. Work on your goals and strategies at least once per week. Rule of thumb: to be successful, every small business person must spend at least 20% of his or her time on marketing activities. Spend at least one day a week aggressively working your marketing plan: and plan to spend much more time with marketing if you are just starting your business.
5) Evaluate and adjust. Evaluate your progress at least once per quarter. You may find that some strategies aren't panning out, while others are getting a high return. Dump what doesn't work, and amplify your more successful
activities.
If you need help with any of the steps above, please give me a call or drop me a line! My "Internet Marketing Coaching" program can help you out with any issues you may have with developing and deploying a winning online marketing plan.
